What's On Your Workdesk? Wednesday # 593

Morning all, another week has whizzed by and it's time again for our weekly get together. Because it's WOYW Wednesday, the day when we go for a wander around the desks of the great and the good courtesy of the lovely Julia at Stamping Ground. Pop on over and join in why don't ya?

So, have been a little poorly this week (cue violins) as I have a long term reflux related cough and for whatever reason (flu jab?) it suddenly got very bad. In fact it is quite exhausting. I have been working very hard this week to get better and I am getting there. It has reminded me that though it may appear to be boring or giving in, staying at home and keeping myself as isolated as possible is the very best thing I can do for me at the moment. In any case I don't think I would dare go out and risk all the side long glances!

Consequence is I haven't done much, contenting myself with pottering in my craft room and watching videos. So here is my desk this morning:

I did stage the doggie card so you could see what I did with those images. I am waiting for inspiration to strike as to where my doggie sentiments are, I'm sure I've got a few somewhere. This morning I'm just rummaging through my many crafting videos to remind myself what is there and I'm toying with the idea of breaking out my Eileen Hull dies for a play..

At my virtual coffee morning at the beginning of the month we had some discussion about a FB group called 'Postcards of Kindness'.  This was started by a Care Home Manager well before Covid to help alleviate boredom for residents, create a connection to the outside world for those who have no friends & family, provide stimulation for conversations and memories and in some cases, spark friendships and correspondence in return. The idea is that those of us out in the wider world just take the time to send a postcard to the care home with a few words - you don't have to include your address.

It has been a big success and care homes have registered up and down the UK. So I thought I'd mention it in case anyone wants to get involved. Just think what it's been like for residents since Covid appeared and how important something like this could be to their ability to thrive.

Anyhoo that's me for today, have a good week everyone, please will the rain stop so I can get in my garden!!!!!!

Stay well, stay safe,

Cindy x

Oh lovely idea! I think I will explore that. I have always been a big supporter of various charity projects but mostly by knitting things (blankets, boobies, and Big Knit tiny hats, to name a few) so and paper crafty thing would be right up my alley for sure. To be sure, there isn't a lot that will drive me to FB but I may have to make an exception. Sorry about the cough. I took a drug called Ramipril for a time and after about 2 years got the dreaded "Ramipril cough" (which I hear is basically just like the Covid-cough, as they attach to the same.. receptor, I think. Anyway it was hellish, and after a sleepless week and a chat with the Dr. I stopped taking the pill and the cough went too. Thank goodness. Hope it is just heated dry air that is making your existing cough worse and it eventually settles. NOTHING must get in the way of our crafting, right? :D

Happy WOYWW!

Your postcard idea is a really good one. We all know how lovely it is to receive a thoughtful note that shows someone is thinking of us. I sort of hope that's what my twiddle mitts do for the recipient too. It must be awful to be "alone" and out of contact with loved ones. Like you - I have a tickly cough and I do feel awkward when I am out and about! xx Jo

Yup, the Postcards of Kindness is very much on my desk now; Mum’s care home is still locked down and I can imagine the bump of happy that the odd postcard would create for the more knowing residents. Such a great thing to find out about Cindy, thanks to you. Sorry you havent been well, LLJ is missing today because the flu jab has made her feel awful too. But yeah, wise to stay home, coughing in public is very very frowned on at the moment! Still, it gets you a nice safe wide berth!! I stood behind a lady in a queue yesterday who pulled her mask down to sneeze into her hand. Instinct, I guess. You should have heard her language when she realised what she’d done and had to give up her place in the queue to go and wash her hands again!! Feel better soon. Xx

I like the idea of those Postcards - definitely something I will do if I remember. I need to write this down somewhere as my head is like a colander (bigger holes than a sieve).
Do hope that you start to feel better soon. It can be so debilitating having a cough but you are doing the best thing in keeping indoors.
Stay safe and get well, Hugs, Neet 14 xx

HI Cindy, what a lovely idea the postcards are! Hope you feel better soon, can imagine the looks you'd get walking around coughing! I must admit I felt a bit cold like for a week after having my flu jab, yet Hubby had his last week and had no problems, so go figure. Stay safe, Have a lovely week, Hugs, Shaz #7 X

What would we have done without our gardens. I hope the rain stopped for you to get out for some fresh air & that you felt well enough too. Great thought to share cards with care homes. I’ll be popping over to see how it’s done. Take care, with hugs from Sue #23. xx

Your postcards of kindness project sounds very nice, Cindy. I'm sorry to hear you are feeling poorly. If your cough is reflux-related, you really need to get that sorted, because damage to the oesophagus caused by ascending stomach acid is very dangerous and can lead eventually to cancer. I suffered from reflux for several years and developed a chronic cough, and my hubby said I made a lot of awful noise with my breathing while asleep. I saw the doctor and was on medication for reflux for several years. Since going whole-food plant-based, it has disappeared. Another thing that helps is to elevate your top half while sleeping - I have an electric bed and always sleep with my top half at about 30 degrees - sleeping on a wedge would also help with this (not sufficient just to add another pillow). It can be a dangerous condition if it is allowed to continue.

Thank you for your visit, and I'm glad you like the finished result with the needle books! Both recipients are crafty-ish (one sews, the other knits) and certainly the first one really appreciated how much work went into it, and I am sure the second one, on Sunday, will as well!

I am glad you enjoyed seeing the kitties, and that you found the soya information interesting. As for my top, I call it my red one because although it is purple-ish, it is redder than the purple one lol!

Happy WOYWW,

Hi Cindy. It has taken me all morning to pick up my click and collect order, so I am really late (for me) starting to work down the list - sorry! You may have felt poorly - and I do so hope you start to feel better soon, but you have certainly been having fun with all those videos and dvds. I like the sound of those postcards of kindness. I do wish not everything was on Facebook, though... I don't do social media.
Take care. God bless.

Cindy I do hope that stubborn cough leaves you be soon, I took my Mom for her flu jab a couple of weeks ago and Thankfully she has had no side effects, unlike most years. Take time to do what's needed and do break out those Eileen Hull dies (say's she with her's still in the box!!) The Postcards of kindness sounds fabulous, I worked in care homes before I Married and had my children I know how much they would have been appreciated back then so now even more important. Keep up that marvelous work & get well soon Happy WoywW Hugs Tracey #11 x

Hi Cindy. I'm way behind today. Been out all day in the garden and on catch up now. Sorry to hear you've not been feeling well and hope that improves soon. The postcard sounds like a great idea. My mum can't get out anymore and although she has carers coming in I know how difficult this stage in her life has been as she has always been a very sociable person. Have a lovely creative woyww, Angela x19x

Hope you get to feeling better soon. Allergies have been my downfall the last couple weeks. I don't have a runny nose but a runny throat with the drainage. Oh well.
Anyway, what a cute card. And the postcard mission is wonderful! Great way to encourage people!
Thanks for stopping by!

I really hope that you will be back feeling on top form very soon.
It looks as though you have a wealth of videos there!
You asked about the leaf stamp on my blog, it was free with the magazine... Simply Cards and Papercraft issue 210. Dies and stamps from Altenew, but no dies for the leaves!
Have a good week and stay safe!

"pottering in my craft room and watching videos" sounds like my kind of heaven! Hope that nasty cough gets better soon - I know, you would ostracized walking around in public with that! What a lovely initiative postcards of kindness sounds! I've heard of programmes when they take little kids in to meet the residents (obviously not an option under the current circumstances) or even pets! When my mother in law was in a home, they had craft sessions as well! There are so many options to bring some joy to people in the twilight years of their lives. Thanks for your visit, Cindy, I'm so sorry I couldn't come earlier - just got snowed under. Enjoy your weekend! xx zsuzsa #20

I do hope you feel a little better today, don't force yourself to 'do' things, just take enough rest - creating will come in time and I'm sure you'll suddenly remember where the doggie sentiments are! Thanks for your visit to my blog last week. In the Netherlands there were stricter rules announced in order to get the covid-number down but I am allowed to stay working at location - pfew! That's a release! Stay healthy and happy! Love from Holland. Marit #2

Great postcard idea! Hope you are feeling better. I got a flu shot the other day which probably explains why I'm so tired and lethargic. I feel better today so hopefully you do too! It's fun looking through old crafty DVD's, the old ideas become the new as we forget so many techniques from the past! I've been delving into a couple of old techniques myself!
Thanks for your earlier visit, sorry I'm so late, have a great rest of the week! Lindart #28
